Tamaraw Falls
Located just 30 minutes from Puerto Galera town the Tamaraw falls offers a beautiful place to swim and have fun. Riding a bike is a great way to get to the falls, for those of you that are fit to do so. A local Jeepney can get you and a dozen friends there without any problem as well. Take a BBQ or packed lunch and make a day of it, it's fun.
Golfing
Ponderosa Golf and Country Club is just an hour from El Galleon Resort. Ask our front desk to book you in on a ride to the mountain area of Ponderosa just 450m., above sea level. Ponderosa is a 9-hole golf course that offers one of the most breath taking views anywhere in Puerto Galera. If you're not a golfer then go for the view. You can get cold drinks and food at the Ponderosa clubhouse and have a chance to meet Tony and Evelyn, the pioneers of Ponderosa. Look out for Tony he plays a mean game of golf and may just take you up on a challenge for a small wager if you're game! Strongly recommended and very good afternoon out.
Motor Biking
Now we're talking adventure! The island of Mindoro is very large and you can literally get lost on this big island. There are many trails you can take but be aware some of the local people find it hard to accept motorbikes being driven through their front land and it's very hard to tell just where their front land is! So try and stay on the roads. There are plenty of dirt roads and we're more than happy to draw maps and give suggestions on where to go. If it's beaches or the mountains, we can put you on the right trail.
Trail Biking
If you're feeling fit and need to work off some of that energy we can suggest mountain bikes. The island of Mindoro is very hilly and you need to know what your doing. There are places you can really test your ability and strength when biking around Puerto Galera. It's a good way to see the area.
Snorkeling
If it's snorkeling you like, you have come to the right place! Puerto Galera has some of the best snorkeling due to the mangrove areas inside Puerto Galera bay itself. The currents are one thing you need to be aware of. Puerto Galera has a two to two and half meter tidal system that can cause the water to run as fast as 6 knots, and that is fast! Always ask an instructor or Dive master on how fast the currents are running, and where you should enter and exit the water when snorkeling. Don't be put off by these currents because there are long periods of the day when there is no current. The coral life is one of the main reasons people come to Puerto Galera and you should not leave without seeing them first hand. Ask our front desk for assistance when hiring snorkeling equipment.
Paintball
OK. I know it's for the kids! Well, if you have a child like streak left in you, and like excitement and adrenalin rushing through your veins then this may just be what you need. It has been said, paint-ball is something I thought I would never do. But now I have done it, I will be doing it again!
Hash House Harriers
The Puerto Galera HHH gets together every Sunday afternoon at Captain Gregg's bar in Sabang. The HHH are a group of runners that like to drink and have fun. It's a family affair, so they say! And it's one hell of a way to see Puerto Galera. Some of the runs (or walks) take you to places that as a tourist would never discovered. The run works like this. There is a Hares, someone that sets the run with chalk and paper. The Hares will set two courses, one for the runners, and one for the walkers. So if you're not up for a run you can walk a course that will be shorter than the runners course and end up at the "On" On". The On On is a place that is picked by the Hares that could be anyplace like, a pub, a scenic clearing in a field, a beach or a hilltop. At the On On the Grand Master will call people that are on their first run (walk) to come forward and introduce themselves. Then you will be given an orientation to the HHH!
Puerto Galera Yacht Club
The PGYC is located in the bay of Puerto Galera. To get there, take a boat from El Galleon to the town of Puerto Galera. From there, take the Yacht Club boat to the PGYC pier, which is two minutes away from the town pier. The Club offers a nice and quiet place for people to eat, drink and meet new friends. If you're looking for the opportunity to sail, you just might be able to, depending on who is available at the time your there. The PGYC has its local regattas so please don't hesitate to ask the management about the up coming races and fun events.
Guides How to get there:
Direct Private Transfers to/from Manila
__This is the quickest and most convenient way to reach us in Puerto Galera.
__It is tailored to suit your required travel times and can be scheduled any time of day or night.
__It’s a 2 – 3 hour air-condition car/van ride from Manila to Mainaga Pier or Leah Beach, followed by an hour boat ride directly to El Galleon Pier. Total journey time usually 3 – 4 hours.
__We require minimum 48 hours notice to provide you with our airport assistance (someone to meet you inside the airport) when you land in Manila airport.
__We STRONGLY recommend that you read through the directions carefully and PRINT THEM OUT to bring with you. We are constantly trying to update and improve the service we provide, so recommend that you print the details even if you have done the journey before.
__Directions for pick up from the International Airport, Manila follow:
__We need your flight number and arrival time to book this as well as the number of people in the group.
Asia Divers and El Galleon Beach Resort offer a special assistance program for our guests arriving at the airport. This requires 48 hours notice of arrival.
__As you leave the plane a representative from the Department of Tourism (DOT) should be waiting to meet you – they will walk you through immigration and customs and to the waiting car/van. It is possible though, depending on the time of day and the number of people to be accounted for by the DOT, you may not be met. Please note the information below to ensure your smooth arrival.
__In the event that you not met by the DOT representative for some reason:
• After immigration and baggage claim you will walk through the customs area to the outside of the airport.
• You will be standing on the ‘arrival terminal access road’.
• Walk across the road and you will see two ramps (signs there point to the ’arrival extension area’) – one going down to your left, one to your right. Walk down the LEFT ramp.
• When you reach the bottom you will be at another access road in front of you. There are barriers in place, behind which you will see lots of people waiting for friends and relatives. There are signs above the waiting area with letters of the alphabet.
• Cross the road and enter through the gate (you will see a letter “A” above you). One of our drivers will meet you wearing an Asia Divers T-shirt and carrying an Asia Divers ‘transfer sign’ with your name.
• Identify yourself and you will be taken to the waiting transport.
(*Please note that if you are flying with Philippine Airlines you will arrive at new extension building. Again as you walk through customs you will be on an arrival road – the driver will be waiting in the crowds with an Asia Divers sign board and T-shirt on the other side of the road.)
__The air-conditioned car/van will take you directly to Leah Beach so do ask the driver if you wish to stop for food, drinks or toilet. There are plenty of MacDonald's and other fast food places as well as “Shell Petrol Stations” on the way. Tip the driver as you see fit, payment for the transport should not be paid to him. All our cars carry cellular telephones in case they are required.
__At Leah Beach the car/van will stop very close to your waiting boat.
__The boat crews work for us and will take you directly to ‘The Point’ (Small La Laguna) where there will be someone from the resort to meet you (again, they work directly for us so your bags will be safely looked after, tip them as you see fit). For your safety, all the boats have marine radios.
You should pay for the boat and car at El Galleon please do not pay anything beyond tips to the driver or boatmen whilst you are on route.
Directions to Leah Beach
Lea Beach is not far from the Shell Refinery on the East side of Batangas Bay. In more detail: If you go to the last exit on the South Superhighway, and turn right, you only have to drive a few km before you will see a large green sign on your right pointing to the new road to Batangas.
This puts you on to a beautiful new road (okay, it is actually quite bumpy for a brand new road). This road now ends just past Lipa, putting you back onto the old road a few km south of McDonald's, and just before San Fernando army/air force base on the right hand side.
Approaching Batangas City, make the next left turn after the Lions Monument. Drive to the nest intersection on your left, turn and take the next left again and head up till you see the sign for Lobo, SM Mall and the Shell Refinery. From there you have 9.2km to Lea Beach if you want to check your trip meter. Take the next right, following the signs to SM Mall, Lobo and the Shell Refinery, on the way you will cross a bridge, shortly after you will see the Portofino Hotel.
Before arriving at the hotel you will see a Y intersection that will take you to the new SM Mall, drive past the mall, past the Shell station and keep left, keeping a lookout for the Shell Refinery and Pacific Flour Mills. Pass the Shell Refinery, and beware of the two speed bumps near the Flour Mill gates. Take the small dirt road on the right immediately at the end of the Flour Mill fence (about 100 meters after the second speed bump) and you are there (look for the Asia Divers/El Galleon transfer sign).
